Packaging Checks

Proper packaging is the difference between receiving your items in perfect condition or dealing with damage claims. This packaging checks guide teaches you how to inspect packaging quality from QC photos before approving your order for shipment. These techniques are used by experienced shoppers to ensure every package arrives safely.

Why Packaging Inspection Matters

Items ordered through a hipobuy spreadsheet travel thousands of kilometers across multiple handling points. Warehouses, airports, sorting facilities, and delivery vehicles all handle your package. Without adequate protection, fragile items can be damaged, clothing can be stained, and shoes can be scuffed. Inspecting packaging before shipment is your only chance to prevent these problems.

Outer Box Inspection

The outer shipping box is your first line of defense. When reviewing QC photos, check the box for:

  • Structural integrity: No dents, creases, or tears that compromise strength
  • Sealing quality: Tape applied securely along all seams
  • Water resistance: No water stains or moisture damage
  • Label placement: Shipping labels clearly visible and properly attached

If the outer box appears damaged in QC photos, request that the warehouse replace it before shipping.

Inner Wrapping Standards

Inside the box, your items should be protected by multiple layers. Review QC photos for these protective elements:

Bubble Wrap

Bubble wrap is the most common protective material. Items should be wrapped with at least one layer, with extra layers for fragile goods. Check that bubbles are intact and the wrap covers the entire item.

Foam Inserts

Shoes and structured items benefit from foam inserts that maintain shape during transit. Verify that inserts are placed correctly in shoes and that foam padding surrounds fragile items.

Protective Tissue Or Plastic

Clothing should be wrapped in tissue paper or sealed plastic bags to prevent dust, moisture, and odor absorption. Check that garments are individually wrapped and that the wrapping material is clean.

Item Arrangement Inside The Box

How items are arranged affects both protection and presentation:

  • Heavier items should be placed at the bottom, lighter items on top
  • Items should not touch each other directly without some barrier
  • Empty space should be filled with cushioning material to prevent movement
  • Flat items like shirts should be neatly folded, not crumpled

Shoe Packaging Specifics

Shoes require special attention. In addition to the standard checks above, verify:

  • Original shoe box is included and undamaged
  • Shoe box is wrapped in outer protective material
  • Shoe trees or stuffing maintain shape inside the shoes
  • Each shoe is individually wrapped to prevent scuffing

Our Image Checking Guide covers additional shoe-specific inspection tips.

Documentation And Photos

If you notice packaging issues in QC photos, document them with screenshots. Save these as evidence when contacting customer support. Clear documentation speeds up resolution and strengthens your case for replacements or refunds.

Shipping Preparation Best Practices

Before approving your order for final shipment, confirm that:

  • All items have passed your personal QC standards
  • Packaging appears adequate for the shipping distance
  • You have selected the appropriate shipping line for your items
  • Your shipping address is correct and complete

Common Packaging Mistakes To Watch For

  • Items placed loosely in oversized boxes without filling material
  • Multiple heavy items stacked without protective layers between them
  • Fragile items placed at the bottom under heavy items
  • Original packaging removed unnecessarily, reducing protection
  • Insufficient tape on box seams, risking opening during transit

Requesting Better Packaging

Most platforms allow you to request enhanced packaging for an additional fee. If you are ordering high-value or fragile items, this upgrade is worthwhile. Some warehouses offer double-boxing, waterproof wrapping, or shock-absorbent foam options.
